Don’t let inclement weather, a low-key weekend around the house or working with a tight budget stop you from creating unforgettable memories with your exchange student. Here is list of ideas to help your family beat boredom during the slower seasons.

Play a game:
  • 20 questions

  • Charades

  • Card games

  • Put together a puzzle

  • Grab your favorite board game!

Learn something new:
  • How to say five important words or phrases in your student’s language

  • How to bake bread or pizza dough from scratch

  • How to make your student's favorite dessert

  • How to fold origami

  • How to French braid hair

  • How to play a new sport

Get out of the house:
  • Go sightseeing around town

  • Watch and photograph the sunset

  • Go stargazing at night

  • Volunteer in the community

  • Hit the local rec centers

  • Rent books or movies from the library

  • Take an after-dinner walk about the neighborhood

  • Find a cafe you've never been to

  • Go to a new yoga/workout class

Host an event:
  • Host an international night. Invite friends over, cook food from your student’s country and show pictures of important places and things they should do if they ever go there.

  • Have a movie night, and everyone who attends brings a snack to share.

  • Host a crafting event to make friendship bracelets, macrame, Mod Podge or vision boards. Ask guests to bring craft supplies and creative ideas.

Ideate and create:
  • Find and bake a new recipe

  • Make a collage of your exchange
